What Is a Spill Zone in AirTouch?

The Spill Zone is a built-in safety feature in AirTouch that protects your ducted air conditioning system from damage caused by excessive air pressure in the ductwork.

Why Is the Spill Zone Important?

When too many zones are turned off or closed, and the air conditioner is still running, airflow is restricted. This can result in a dangerous buildup of pressure inside the ductwork in your roof space.

Over time, this pressure could:

  • Cause ducts to split or disconnect
  • Lead to air leaks
  • Reduce the efficiency of your system
  • Result in costly repairs

To prevent this, the AirTouch system automatically activates a Spill Zone, a designated zone where excess air is safely redirected.

How Does It Work?

  • If your zone settings cause too much restriction in airflow, the system will automatically open the Spill Zone to relieve pressure.
  • On your touchscreen controller, you will see a small "S" icon next to the Spill Zone name when it’s active.
  • Once enough zones are reopened and airflow is balanced, the Spill Zone will deactivate automatically, and the “S” will disappear.

The system software continuously monitors airflow to ensure the Spill Zone is only used when necessary.

Key Benefits of the Spill Zone Feature

  • Prevents duct damage due to high pressure
  • Ensures long-term reliability of your AC system
  • Fully automated – no manual intervention required
  • Maintains efficient airflow when multiple zones are closed

If you turn off all zones except one small room, the system might determine that pressure is too high. It will automatically activate the Spill Zone (e.g., Living Room), open airflow to that zone, and show an "S" indicator on the screen to signal it’s active.
